Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
This department is mainly concerned with naturally occurring drugs that have been used since ancient times in various parts of the world. Among the approximately 15,000 specimens of crude drugs is a large number of Chinese drugs. Other materials include: herb specimens collected in Java, Formosa, the Chinese mainland, the Korean Peninsula, Saghalien, the Bonin Islands, the Ryukyu Islands, Southeast Asia, and the East Himalayas; and materials for pharmacognostical and phytochemical education such as Ephedra, ginseng (Panax ginseng), bupleurum root, peony, and aconite root.
